I have piles of books on the floors. Lots of piles of books in each of the rooms. No real book aesthetic!

I have a mix of books on shelves and books in piles... whatever works best! Often, books alone are aesthetic enough :)

You bring up such an interesting point about the simple beauty of nature and wanting to be connected to it. There’s a very interesting example of this in American history. Pioneer children would be abducted by Native American tribes during war, and they would be integrated into their culture. Even years later, when they came back to industrialized society, they all desired to go back to the life with Native Americans. Something about the tranquil and simple beauty of being connected to nature heavily appealed to them. And I agree, along with you and Tolkien, we are slowly destroying opportunities to engage in that type of experience.

That's a fascinating example Landon. And it seems to run in tandem to Tolkien's worry about what we may lose in the industrialization of the world.

I don't know as much about C.S. Lewis, but I do know he was ritualistic about his afternoon walks in the countryside, both for enjoyment and creativity.

Nature is such a complex and beautiful system. It just seems vane to me to think we can replace it with something artificial and manmade.

Appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this :)
