…you know you are doing good work when work starts knocking on your door…being able to turn down any work means you may already have work enough…inspiring to hear you settle and dig…
Haha thank you CansaFis. I’m in a fortune position where I can choose not to do work and say no. But perhaps it’s because my desire to be a farmer in the countryside and really settle and dig is only growing
I had a great time slowing down and reading this essay, Tommy. I gained a special fondness for Rajko - do you also feel like you're simultaneously eight and eighty at times?
I had a thought that perhaps all truly wise men are both 8 and 80. They have this vibrant inner child and playfulness but also sage-like depth. Yoda comes to mind as that archetype.
Your writing has evolved as you have lived more and more experiences. You are taking it to the experiences, not waiting for experiences to come to you. This is an art form. Keep at it, and be vigilant about giving yourself time to absorb. Touch people along the way, and absorb them fully. We are humans. That means we are connectors and fully intertwined.
So thoughtfully written. This makes life worth living to be of service to someone else, and to always do extra than what is expected of you. What a world it would be if everyone acted this way. In these tumultuous times this was needed.
Tommy, the dignity and values that are steaming off this pile of fertile honesty arrests the senses of my own character. I calls the right part of me forth and I'm relishing the imagery you've used to empower it.
"There is every opportunity to plant garlic sideways" but why would you when you own the farm?
Haha I love the farming metaphors Rick. I think you keyed into one of the core ideas which is an extreme sense of ownership and responsibility for everything one does. Because in some mystic undefined way we are owners of everything we do.
You are so kind to let me keep adding my metaphorical graffiti to your comments section. Your essays always produce such wonderful conversation. And yes, your way of getting at this idea that we are always owners, wherever we go and whatever we do, was very inspiring to me.
