Such a lovely Saturday morning read. Much appreciation for your work here Tommy. Life indeed becomes infinitely more enjoyable when we can look back on our days having accomplished something. Especially if it’s not perfect, because then not only did me accomplish something, we learned something.

Bonus points (😉) for the TikTok bullet at the end, as there is a significant part of humanity that will not accomplish anything today due to semi consciously scrolling their day away.

This was such a meditative read, much like the process you describe.

I lived in Paris for a while and even in the chaos of daily life, bread was a part of the routine. The amble to the boulangerie for a 1 euro baguette to start the day. A thing of beauty.

“It required a shift in my heart posture to look at all these plans as an abundance of hope, rather than a scarcity of resources or skill.” Loves this ♥️

appreciate this one!! thanks for reminding me to create today.

as james baldwin said, “talent is insignificant…behind talent lie all the usual words: discipline, love, luck, but most of all endurance.”

Good morning! Great read for this Saturday morning, thank you. I really love the way you write and the topics you explore. I definitely resonate with a lot of the feelings you have, being a young person navigating adulthood. I wanted to give you some of my favourite Kitchener-Waterloo spots, as I did my undergrad at UWaterloo and grew up nearby. Whenever I come home I make it a goal to revel in the nostalgia of these spots.

Cafes

Lucero Canteen

*(great coffee & delicious berliner donuts. My coffee snob fiancée says it’s the best coffee he’s ever had)

Seven Shores Cafe

*(hippy kind of vibe with yummy foods and coffees, would be a nice spot to read or write, nice outdoor seating)

Used Book Shop:

Old Goat Books

*(used to be owned by an old man who really did look like a goat. Now owned by a young woman I believe)

Grocery store:

Vincenzos

*(amazing Italian sandwiches where you choose all the toppings. Also has great gelato/affogatos)

And of course Victoria Park & Waterloo Park are wonderful hangout spots for the summer time.

Something that really made my life in Waterloo special were these little gems scattered throughout the city. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Best,

Julia

Awesome, Tommy! Agree with agency being the key ingredient, and good to see you following your own desires!

Love it! I'd love to see how many essays in a row you can include the phrase "heart posture." This is the hidden signature in a great, Tommy-written essay.

Love this. I adore the ritual of making bread and the sense of adventure when trying new things. It really is all about the trying and not about the result.

Thank you, Tommy, for giving us the pleasure of wandering around into the depths of things on this Saturday morning. I love best the few sentences about the children, reminding me that I, too, am a child (at age 80) and can turn the ordinary into the extraordinary ("space launch") any time I want!

"Play" is such a powerful distinction, and children, being masters at it, become teachers of us "adults," don't they? And "revere" is a beautiful verb.
